The Chappell property was purchased four years ago for $550,000 by the city. It was bought with the idea of turning the area into a recreation area for everyone. So far, it’s continued as a nine-hole, sand-green golf course.

Because of the $1.8 million Downtown Streetscape Project replaced all the sidewalks downtown, traditional salt can not be used to melt the ice.

The Baldwin City Municipal Golf Course's future was discussed at Monday's city council meeting.

Baldwin City crews work to get the community Christmas tree in its stand Monday morning. The tree stands in the empty lot between the post office and Lumberyard Arts Center. The annual Light Parade and tree lighting ceremony will take place Nov. 29.

City workers remove snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of the Baldwin City Public Library last winter. This year, city administrators are asking downtown business owners to not use salt on the new sidewalks.

Area farmers, such as Todd Dwyer, shown here near Vinland, have been harvesting corn and soybeans recently. While the harvest has gone well, the prices aren't so good.
