We were disappointed by what we saw and heard at the Baldwin City Council meeting Monday night. We are pleased that a special meeting of the Baldwin City Planning Commission Tuesday night, ordered by the council, fixed the problem and all is well.
What was at issue was Gary and Robbie Lamoreux's plans to build a new Arrowhead Hardware store at the entrance of FireTree Estates. They first brought those plans to the planning commission about a year ago.
The process that has followed has been frustrating, both for the Lamoreuxs and city staff. The planning commission has been caught in the middle. It's a long story, but boils down to a failure to communicate by all involved.
That was admitted to at Tuesday's meeting, fences were mended, changes were made and approved. Apparently, all is well.
We're so glad to see that. We believe the new hardware store is the best project to come along for Baldwin City in years. We've been strong supporters of it from its inception. We're anxious to see it become a reality.
And, it looks like that may finally happen.
