Letter to the editor
To the editor:
I've waited long enough and I have to speak now for myself and others. Downtown is getting uglier by the day. We're not only losing parking spaces, but it is making downtown really ugly. I hope they paint the fountain or something.
One of the men that was working downtown asked me why we voted for this redo and I told him we didn't have the right to vote on it.
Also, what do people think grants are made up of? The more people get them, the higher our taxes go.
Also, when Baker University buys houses and then tears them down, our taxes go up since that property is taken off the tax roll.
I always thought the city should fix a park for the kids that like to roller blade and, by gosh, they are fixing one downtown. I don't think the kids should be gotten on to for using it as one. It is right there waiting for them.
With the Maple Leaf Festival coming, as usual, parking will be sparse. If Baker wanted to be a friend, they should stop roping off all their property so people can't park, what a friend. As people say, the money could be used to make sidewalks around town. What a lot of remarks I've heard about downtown and I agree with them all. Whoever chose that design, needs to go back to designing school.
Also, I think the Maple Leaf should go back to having its queen and not change it to Junior Miss and ruin it. I know there should be some qualified girls here now.
I hear the Jay Leno show has contacted Chet McMillen for him to appear on Leno's show. Sounds real exciting. Hope we know when he will be on so that we can see it.
I wonder if Baldwin expects terrorist attacks!
